Who Made Your Pants?

Gorgeous Pants. By women, for women.

Nice weather for ducks. And Holidays.

Hello there pants fans!

Hope you’re keeping dry and cheery in this lovely *cough* summer weather?

Things are going well for us here at Pants Central. The impact of our mention in the Guardian Weekend magazine in continuing, happily. So much so that we’ve had a phone call from the Royal Mail….They rang up saying, er, you’ve been filling up all our post boxes…

During the week after our mention in the Guardian Weekend magazine we took an unprecedented amount of orders – we liked it, please feel free to continue! – but we’ve been growing slowly so we didn’t have a system on place to cope with posting so many. So, you’ve got to love this, our smashing volunteer Amy (who recently got a first in her maths degree!) was loading up our Giant Blue Wheely Suitcase with orders and trekking out each day to do a little walking tour of the area, taking in all the local post boxes… The fact that, as you have seen, our boxes have our name on meant we were easy to track down! It’s been a good thing – the nice man from Royal Mail is going to come to see us and we’re hoping to get something a little bit more formal set up!

We’re also delighted that we’ve been able to put more pins into our ‘pants map’ including one in the island of Tiree. Our team love knowing where their hard work gets sent to.

With summer in full swing, and with Ramadan, an important time for our team approaching, it’s holiday season. Della, our Head of Operations (a grand title meaning ‘the person that makes it all work) is off on a long awaited holiday for the next two weeks. Hawa is looking forward to her trip back to Somalia, and her children to their trip to Sweden where they have family. Samia has visitors from Afghanistan and there are excited conversations about it all. We don’t ask too many questions of our team about ‘before UK’ as we don’t want to stir up difficult memories – the reality is, people don’t leave their home country and flee if they’re safe and well there. So to hear our team being excited about seeing their families again is a real pleasure.

That’s about it for this week. Hope you have a good week and thanks so much for ordering these smashing pants – we hope you love them as much as we do.

Big love,

Becky and the team

Pants Map

Hello pants fans!

How’s it going where you are? Hope some of you have seen some sunshine.

Summery weather is still eluding us here in Southampton, but we’re celebrating anyway as our gorgeous new white lace pants have started rolling off the production line this week. We were delighted to find a high quality white lace as we’ve been after one for months. Our standards are high though, so it it took a while. We hope you love it as much as we do.

On other news, we’re running a little campaign online to help us populate our Pants Maps. We have, in our lunch room, a map of the UK, and in our reception area a world map. These have pins in to show our team where every piece of their handiwork goes. They love knowing and the pins help us teach about different places and history within the UK and further afield. Trying to pronounce Mytholmroyd, for example, sparked a conversation about how the UK was, previously, made up of many kingdoms with many version of Old English and how the United Kingdom came about. The team love hearing me pronounce the Welsh names, too.

We’d like your help with this, in two ways. We want to make sure all the places that should have pins, do, but also, that some of the places without pins get them. So if you’re on facebook or twitter and you have pants from us, please leave us a comment with the tag #pantsmap and we’ll make sure we have a pin in your place. The next bit is more fun.

We want to put pins in Orkney, Anglesey, the Channel Islands, Penzance, Anywhere in Northern Ireland that isn’t Belfast, Scotland north of Aberdeen and Kingussie, and North East England between Berwick and Newcastle. If you know people in those places, could you tell them about us?

And of course, pins mean prizes. All new pins that go in between now and the end of JULY will be entered into a prize draw for a gift set, and the winner will be announced on August the 1st. Any help at all would be hugely appreciated.

Hope you have a great week.

Until next time, best wishes from Becky and the team

News in brief…

Becky is getting ready for a week off next week, Della is getting ready for two weeks off (not at the same time as Becky..) Amy has bought an umbrella after getting DRENCHED in our summer rain, Yasmein and Zuhra have been doing exams, Hawa has been teaching us about lime tea and sharing fruit we have no names for, Sacdiya has filled in a Day In the Life diary for us to use during Refugee Week, Batol has been sharing delicious sweet sesame paste and Samia has been cooking up sticky rice, halva, and spiced spinach.
